George Regional Health System Hosts 3rd Annual Fun Run
George County’s 3rd Annual Easter-themed Heart Walk is set for Saturday, March 21 and includes many free family-friendly activities. The walk begins at 8:30 (registration begins at 7:00) on the hospital’s campus with a 5K Fun Run through the city of Lucedale. New to this year’s event is a One Mile Fun Run, which starts at 8:40 a.m.
“Hosting a Heart Walk is a great way to bring our community together to increase recognition of heart disease. The disease affects hundreds in our county each year. Many people don’t realize that George Regional Hospital offers heart care services and performs more than 400 procedures each week,” explains Greg Havard, George Regional Health System CEO.
All of the funds raised benefit the American Heart Association. According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, the leading cause of death in George County is heart disease. While recognizing a serious health issue, the event also promises to be a fun, family-friendly day.
There will be two Easter egg hunts; one for children five and under and one for children six through 10. The Easter bunny will also make an appearance. The event features face painting, refreshments, door prizes, and heart health booths. The Easter egg hunt and children’s activities are all FREE!
The fun run will begin on the George Regional Hospital campus. The cost is $20 and includes a commemorative T-shirt. Pre-registration is due by March 6. Participants may also register the day of the race, but are not guaranteed a shirt.
Registration forms and race routes can be found at the Wellness Center, 838 Mill Street, at www.GeorgeRegional.com, and on the George Regional Health System Facebook page. Participants can also register online at www.eventbrite.com. For questions, please contact Stephanie Chisholm at 601-947-0709 or [email protected].
