Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The dietary aide works with the facility’s Dietitian/Director of Food Services as necessary and
implements recommended changes as required. Performs other duties, as assigned.
Ensures that food procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.
The dietary aide assists with the service and delivery of food trays to designated areas, cleaning
of the kitchen per established protocols, and proper washing and cleaning of food utensils an
dishes.
Assigned Tasks:
- Serves meals in accordance to established portion control procedures.
- Serves meals that are appetizing and palatable in appearance.
- Serves meals as necessary and on a timely basis.
- Assists in daily cleaning duties as assigned to include work tables, meat blocks, and refrigerators/freezers in accordance to established policies and procedures.
- Sweep and mops floors as directed.
- Washes and cleans utensils, dishes, and cooking items according to established policies and procedures.
- Carries out garbage and keeps the work area clean, dry, and free of hazards.
- Sets up meal trays, food carts, dining room, etc., as instructed.
- Collects and distributes menus as instructed.
- Assists in checking dietary trays before distribution and delivering food carts to designated areas.
- Removes food carts, food trays from dining rooms to dishwashing area for cleaning.
- Treats all residents with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents’ rights.
- Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.
- Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents and themselves.

- Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
- Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings, fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan.

JOB SUMMARY:

EDUCATION:
Must be able to read, write, and follow oral instructions. High school education or equivalent is preferred. If the program has not been successfully completed, the Nursing Assistant can only perform those tasks he/she has demonstrated proficiency in completing.

- Checks each resident who is being physically restrained releasing the restraint and assisting the resident to toilet at least every 2 hours.

- Assist in dining areas as assigned. Offers assistance to residents as needed. Offers substitutions for items not eaten well by any resident. Promotes atmosphere conducive to increased nutritional intake for each resident in the dining room.
- For those residents unable to go to the dining room, assist in service, assisting and supervising meal service as assigned.
- Assist in transporting used trays to the kitchen following appropriate infection control policies and procedures.
- Assist residents to plan their time to enable them to be well cared for as well as attend their desired functions during the shift. (i.e., activities, visits with each other and their families, outings, meals, quiet times, etc.)
- Answers call lights timely assisting with care as indicated. Keeps call lights available for the residents.
- Encourages and motivates residents to participate in recreational activity of body and mind.
- Provides and keeps fresh water and fluids available for the residents at all times. Offers fluids at least every 2 hours or each time in the room when appropriate.
- Timely serves and provides assistance with between meal nourishments as indicated.
- Follows bath and whirlpool schedules as outlined for each resident. Do nail care, wash hair, shave, etc. to assure personal hygiene practices are always followed.
- Checks all residents frequently and at least every 2 hours assuring the resident is repositioned, turned, toileted, clean, safe, etc. Provides intervention as needed to provide a safe clean environment.
- Checks each resident who is being physically restrained releasing the restraint and assisting the resident to toilet at least every 2 hours.
- Checks all residents daily for condition of skin, reporting findings to Licensed Staff assigned to unit.
- Assist licensed staff when needed to position residents in need of treatments. Keeps hand rolls and positioning devices in place as needed and as indicated for each resident.

- Takes and records vital parameters as assigned. Assists with weekly and monthly weights as assigned.
- Cleans and properly arranges all bedroom furniture to include keeping the residents orderly, clean and following infection control guidelines.
- Assist the residents in keeping closets clean, clothing clean and in good repair, marked with their name, etc.
- Assist residents to keep bathrooms clean, following infection control and privacy practices.
- Changes residents bed clothing to assure the bedding is clean, not wrinkled, and promotes good hygiene and care practices.
- Follows appropriate infection control practices in working with the residents and equipment.
- Keeps accurate records of intake and outputs and procedures throughout the shift for those residents who require such.
- Records information on the Nursing Care Records timely.
- Keeps Licensed Staff informed of pertinent information timely. Writes pertinent information on the Group Assignments Sheet and Communication Books.
- Provides information accurately and timely for information to be added to the residents Interdisciplinary Care Plan.
- Cleans ancillary rooms and equipment as assigned. Assist other members of the staff to keep each area of the facility clean, orderly, safe, and a homelike atmosphere for the residents.
- Assist other staff members as needed throughout the shift. Cooperates with other personnel to be sure residents are of prime importance to all members of the staff.
- Assist new staff members in orientation as needed throughout the shift.
- Maintains safe environment at all times, wiping up spills, working with housekeeping staff when available picking up articles as noted, etc.
- Gives report to Licensed Staff and turn in completed Group Assignment sheet prior to leaving the unit to go off duty.
- Performs any other tasks as assigned by the Licensed Staff, Director of Nursing, or Assistant Director of Nursing.
