JOB SUMMARY
The role of the Activity Assistant is supportive in nature. The Activity Assistant assumes the leadership of the Activity Department in the absence of the Activity Director in meeting the objectives of the Activity Department, which is to develop and implement an activity program that is designed to meet the individual activity needs and interests of each individual resident. The Activity Assistant works as a member of a team under the direction of the Activity Director.
EDUCATION
Must have a high school diploma.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with the Activity Director to restore self confidence, community integration, resocialization skills, improving physical condition, leisure education for residents, one-one programming for the room/bed-bound, providing mental stimulation and sensory stimulation for residents in the facility.

- Participates in patient care plan conferences as requested by the Activity Director, and represents the Activity Director at these conferences in the absence of the Director.

- Completes documentation as assigned by the Activity Director in a timely and professional manner.
- Communicates with Department Heads and other staff when necessary to insure full implementation of the activity program

- Assists the residents in transporting to and from activities as needed.
- Conducts activities with the residents, both groups and on a one-one and an individual basis as scheduled by the Activity Director.

- Supervises the meal service for each resident on the unit. Works with the staff to assure each resident is provided adequate nutrition for each meal.
- Continually assesses and reassesses residents for risk of complications as a result of being in the facility. (i.e., skin breakdown, incontinence, contractures, reduced mobility, reduced involvement in bathing, dressing, or eating, weight loss, behaviors due to change in lifestyle, etc.)
- Continually observes progress and quality of work of the Nursing Assistants to assure that residents are turned, repositioned, toileted, walked, exercised, provided food and fluids, well groomed, involved in their specific restorative program, provides intervention as indicated, et. Also observes the resident’s environment to assure a clean and safe environment is provided for each resident.
- Document on the nurse’s notes per policy. Assures there is accurate and timely documentation of any unusual observation, incident, or happening.
- Reviews information, reassess residents, interviews staff, reviews documentation of each shift and writes monthly nurses progress note using the Interdisciplinary Care Plan documenting progress or lack of progress toward the resident’s goals. Writes suggestions for changes to be made to the plan of care on the “Working Copy” of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan.

- Ability to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Ability to assist in evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.
- May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and/or odors throughout the day; encounter reactions from dust, tobacco smoke, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.
- Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.
- May be subject to hostile or emotional residents, family members, visitors, or personnel.
- Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities.
- Must be knowledgeable of food services practices and procedures.
- Must be able to taste and smell food to determine quality and palatability.
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, work areas, and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Works in a ventilated, well-lit area. Atmosphere is warm for cooking.
- Subject to frequent interruptions.
- Communicates with medical and nursing staff, and other departments.
- Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
- May be exposed to heat/cold temperatures in the kitchen/storage areas.
